Dare to Fail

I know it’s a bad word, but today, I want you to not only give yourself permission to fail, but to demand that you seek to fail. Every successful improviser you’ve ever seen perform has failed over and over and over again. Only by daring to fail do we as improvisers reinvent the art of improvisation, create new things, and grow as performers. When we get complacent and comfortable doing the things we know we’re good at onstage, we no longer innovate. Nothing new or fresh was ever created without courage in the face of failure. The beauty of improv is learning to find success in our failures, and the courage to fail is the hallmark of a great improviser.

So get out there, fail hard, pick yourself up, and fail again in the knowledge that you’re making yourself a better improviser.
